Mayur Vihar is the large East Delhi residential area across the Yamuna, split into Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3, with Noida and Ghaziabad just past its edges. It is almost all apartment societies, so nearly every booking here is a visit to a flat.
Phase 1 sits closest to the river, near Akshardham temple and the Noida Link Road, and most of our calls from this side of Delhi come from there. Phase 2 lies a little further in around Sanjay Lake, and Phase 3 runs out past Kondli towards the Ghaziabad border. Across all three, the housing is mostly group housing societies, many of them started as cooperatives for journalists, bank staff and government workers, plus DDA pocket flats. An address here is a society name or pocket, then a flat number, and every society has its own gate.
Mayur Vihar-I station is on the Blue Line towards Noida, one stop after Akshardham, and it is also a stop on the Pink Line, which adds stations at Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 and East Vinod Nagar-Mayur Vihar-II. From our Naraina side this is one of the longer drives, close to an hour in evening traffic over the river, and about forty minutes after 11 PM. The jam at the Akshardham crossing between 7 and 9 PM is the main thing that pushes a booking later, since most of the Noida traffic funnels through it. We would rather give you the real time on the phone than a hopeful one.
Society guards in Mayur Vihar are careful. Many ring your flat on the intercom before anyone goes up, and some ask visitors to write a phone number in the register. The simplest way is to tell the guard a guest is on the way, or wait for her at the gate. Bookings are easiest after 10 PM, once the evening walkers and delivery riders have thinned out and the gate is quiet. If the guard wants a name, give him the one we share with you on the call, and she will say the same name at the gate.
Hotel rooms are scarce inside Mayur Vihar itself. Men who want one usually book across the border near Sector 18 in Noida, or in Kaushambi on the Ghaziabad side, and both are a short drive from Phase 1.
