Tilak Nagar is a crowded West Delhi neighbourhood on Najafgarh Road, settled by Punjabi families after Partition and still built around its market. It is close to our Naraina side, which makes it one of the quickest areas in the city for us to reach.
Tilak Nagar market is the centre of the area, a long run of clothes, shoe and sweet shops, with food stalls that keep going after the shutters come down around 9 PM. Behind it, most homes are old family plots rebuilt as three or four floors, often with a different branch of the same family on each floor, and by evening the lanes fill with parked cars. Vishnu Garden, Chaukhandi, Ashok Nagar and Tilak Vihar sit around it and feel much the same. A large share of the people here are Sikh families, and gurdwaras are the easiest landmarks to give a driver.
Tilak Nagar station is on the Blue Line, raised above Najafgarh Road, one stop from Subhash Nagar on one side and Janakpuri East on the other. Pacific Mall and the Rajouri Garden market are a few minutes east along the same road. From Naraina a car gets here in twenty to twenty-five minutes through Mayapuri, and faster after 10 PM, so a booking for the same hour usually works out. Najafgarh Road under the metro line stays slow until about 9 PM, so an early booking needs half an hour's notice.
Because so many houses hold one family across several floors, a home visit here needs a little planning. If relatives live above or below you, meet her at the corner of your lane or at the metro gate and walk in together, and keep the time late. That is why most Tilak Nagar bookings come after 10 PM, when the stairs are empty and the neighbours have gone in. If you share a floor with your parents, say so when you call. We will send her in plain everyday clothes and keep the arrival to the minute, so nobody is left waiting outside your door.
The other choice is a room. There are small hotels along Najafgarh Road between Tilak Nagar and Rajouri Garden, which is the easier option when the house is full. Tell us the hotel name when you call, so we can tell her how the entry works. Rates are on the price page. If you live one stop west, past Janakpuri East station, our Janakpuri page covers it, and if you are in central Delhi on business, Karol Bagh suits you better.
